El Mundo Deportivo report this Wednesday morning that Barcelona legend Xavi has been trying to persuade Thiago Alcantara to stay at Barcelona and reject the advances of Manchester United.
ESPN claimed yesterday that Manchester United are closing in on Thiago and the Spain Under-21 star could be unveiled as early as Friday, alongside new boss David Moyes during his first press conference at Old Trafford.
However, El Mundo Deportivo write today that no one at Barcelona knows what Thiago has decided with the midfielder still on holiday after guiding Spain Under-21s to success at the European Championships.
A number of Barcelona players have been in contact with Thiago, to convince him to stay at the Nou Camp, chief among them has been Xavi.
The veteran schemer also struggled for playing time at the start of his Barcelona career and has urged Thiago to be patient and reject the lucrative offers from Manchester United and Barcelona.
Xavi was close to joining AC Milan near the start of his Barcelona career but has since become an integral part of the first team for the Catalans and enjoyed outstanding success at club and international level.
He has told Thiago that he is his natural successor at the club and Barcelona will come to rely on him in the coming seasons.
Thiago Alcantara is expected back for pre-season training at Barcelona on July 15 with the Catalans having still not heard anything about his plans for next season.
