Xabi Alonso rules out return to Liverpool or move to Chelsea [AS]

Much like his no nonsense style of play at the base of the midfield for Real Madrid and Spain, Xabi Alonso has rejected links over recent days with Liverpool and Chelsea, in pretty curt fashion.

Alonso has been linked with a return to Liverpool or a move to Chelsea following the news that Asier Illarramendi will be joining Real Madrid in a big money transfer from Real Sociedad.

The deep-lying playmaker is quoted by AS this afternoon, saying: “Premier League return? No.”

On further questioning, Alonso simply put the rumours down to speculation and appears to be ready to fight for his place at Real Madrid.

Alonso was a favourite under new Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at the Bernabeu whilst Brendan Rodgers was thought to be revising his “over 30s policy” to bring in the midfielder who Steven Gerrard described as the best he ever played with.

With the likes of Sami Khedira and Luka Modric also available to Ancelotti at Real Madrid, this might not be the end of this summer’s Xabi Alonso speculation especially as he has just one season left on his current contract.
