Lionel Messi was once again in goal scoring form last night as Argentina confirmed their place at the top of South American’s World Cup qualification table with a 2-1 win in Chile.
“The Flea” has now scored 68 goals and provided 21 assists for club and country in what is quite frankly a ridiculous calendar year of football.
The Barcelona forward is also closing in on the top goal scorers in Argentina’s history. Messi (31 goals) is 3 behind Diego Maradona and 4 off Hernan Crespo with Gabriel Batistuta’s 56 not looking unreachable.
But the story of the night, and arguably the image from Tuesday night’s international games is the linesman who asked Messi for a picture – at half-time of the World Cup qualifier!
Talk about professionalism…
