As transfer rumours go, this is quite a spectacularly surprising suggestion from SPORT.
With Dani Alves set to leave Barcelona this summer, destination Paris Saint Germain, the Catalan club are in the market for a new right back.
With neither Douglas or Martin Montoya convincing manager Luis Enrique, the La Liga giants have set their radar on a most unlikely player.
Sport claim that Barcelona have identified their ideal replacement for Alves as none other than Liverpool’s Glen Johnson.
This will certainly come as a surprise to Liverpool fans, who don’t exactly hold the man they’ve nicknamed John Glenson in the highest regard.
With Brendan Rodgers now using a 3-4-3 system, Glen Johnson hardly gets a look in at Anfield these days, indeed some may even suggest Rodgers introduced the formation so that he could dispense with Johnson, whose form has nosedived in recent seasons.
Sport do say that the interest isn’t simply one way from Barcelona, though, and that it’s actually Liverpool who have offered the 31-year old full-back to them.
They see Johnson as a good fit, not least because his contract is up in June and could hence be signed on a free, but are concerned by his injury history, with 13 injuries sustained throughout his career.
