Why Arsenal could bag Sporting midfielder William Carvalho on the cheap

All Arsenal fans agree that Arsene Wenger needs to bring in just one more player this summer: a specialist defensive midfielder.

Having signed Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers, Arsenal look well set for season 2014/2015.

But, many Gooners are wondering whether Mikel Arteta is good enough to anchor a midfield awash with great talents.

Or, perhaps Wenger could utilise Jack Wilshere in a holding midfield role?

Either way, Arsenal are still being linked with defensive midfielders such as Sami Khedira and Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.

The latter was considered one of the best players in Portugal last season and was scouted extensively by Manchester United.

Today, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo suggested Arsenal had made a 30 million euro bid for William Carvalho.

According to widely held information, that is public, Carvalho earns very low wages for a footballer coveted by some of the Premier League’s biggest teams.

And, there are now clear reasons why Sporting Lisbon may need to sell Carvalho for way lower than his market value.

These have all been detailed by the @MessiMinutes Twitter account and are well worth a read below.
