When fans attack: Ajax fan screams at Marco van Basten

One Ajax fan simply could not hold back his emotions after watching his side lose 1-nil at home at the hands of Heerenveen on Saturday.

Without question, it has proven a difficult weekend for the Amsterdammers. The defeat to Heerenveen has left Ajax’s title challenge in danger of falling apart, leaving them provisionally six points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar who travel to Sparta on Sunday with the chance to extend their lead.

And for this poor fan it all got too much.

As coach Marco van Basten exited the field at the Ajax ArenA, heading down the stairs to the dressing room, the cameras trailed the beleaguered manager who was immediately found himself coming under a barrage of abuse from one angry youth in the crowd.

Sarcastically shouting “Marco, thanks!” the fan quickly descended into a colourful rant screaming “It’s gone! The championship! The championship is gone!”

Looking to pacify the upset youth, a security guard responded (in arguably the most patronising way possible) by saying “It’s just a game.”

Unsurprisingly, that was enough to send the already upset fan bonkers. Thumping his chest in a demonstration of how he wears his heart on his sleeve, the supporter countered, answering back “That’s the reason why you play and it is gone!”

Brilliantly, the commentator then interjected saying the supporter should take “a few less pills.”

We hope by this stage the passionate supporter has calmed down.
