The newspapers this morning are dominated with the non-story that Wayne Rooney has bought two horses and is paying Manchester United team mate Michael Owen to train them.
Expect tomorrow’s papers to be full of stories about how Rooney mocked Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson during the annual Big United quiz shown on MUTV over the weekend between the players and coaching staff at Old Trafford.
Incidentally, it was reported earlier this month that Ferguson had wondered why Ryan Giggs had chosen Wayne Rooney for his team in the quiz, saying: “This year Giggs has roped Jonny Evans and Wayne Rooney into it. Can you believe that? Come on, we want some competition!”
During the charades part of the quiz, Rooney had to describe the film “Bend it like Beckham” to team mates Giggs and Jonny Evans.
After first drawing the number seven in the air and then playing with his imaginary hair, Rooney then plays out getting a boot kicked in the face before pointing to Sir Alex Ferguson. In reference to the incident that saw Beckham pictured with a cut above his eye after a dressing room altercation with Goldenballs in February 2003.
When Giggs guesses “Bend it like Beckham” correctly, Ferguson quickly recognises the joke and tells Rooney “that’s gonna cost you!”
