New Manchester united signing Mame Biram Diouf, who has remained at Norwegian outfit Molde for the time-being, found himself at the centre of controversy on Wednesday night as the striker was pushed to the ground in a pivotal moment during his side’s cup match with Valerenga.
Heading into the final 13 minutes the visitors were leading 1-nil and looked on course for an excellent away win. And then the madness happened as Valerenga’s Andreas Nordvik reacted badly to an incident with Diouf in the box, turning on the striker and pushing the United man to the turf.
According to post match reports Nordvik reacted to being hit in the head and in the defender’s own words, “Diouf struck me in the skull. I lost my head and pushed him.”
Following the push, Nordvik was not only red-carded but the referee pointed to the spot allowing Hoseth to equalise from 12-yards. The match then had a pulsating finish, both sides scoring in the final ten minutes before Molde scored four goals in injury time to run out comfortable winners.
