After another impressive performance in the Champions League this week, Arsene Wenger surely cannot wait until Bordeaux forward Marouane Chamakh finally joins his squad this summer.
To recap on the details of the transfer, the 26-year-old striker’s contract expires this summer at Les Girondins and, with reports circling of a rumoured of a £60,000-a-week/five-year deal presented by the Gunners, Chamakh has agreed to move to the Emirates where he’ll become a vital cog in Arsenal forward-line.
Chamakh had a fine game against Olympiakos.
Playing as the lone central striker with Wendel and Gourcuff offering support from midfield, Chamakh showed his ability to hold up possession and become his side’s outlet ball, whether the Moroccan was forced to control passes with his feet, chest or head.
When presented with goal-scoring opportunities, Chamakh also stepped up to the plate.
His first effort of note arrived 10 minutes before the break with a low left-footed drive the forced Nikopolidis into a comfortable save. Later, in the 82nd minute, Chamakh’s ball control let him down as the striker stole possession off the Greek backline, only to see the ball run away from him as he was bearing down on the opposition goal. But all that was forgotten when Chamakh grabbed the match-winner, as the forward showed off his aerial prowess with a bullet back-post header at the death.
