Is he young? Check. Is he French? Check. Does he play in Ligue 1? Check. Well then, he has all the qualities to be linked with a whole host of Premier League Clubs.
This time his name is Yohan Cabaye, he is 23-years-old, he plays for Lille and the Daily Mail claimed today that Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea are all closely monitoring his progress.
Cabaye joined the Lille academy at the tender age of 15. He has worked his way up through the ranks at the club and in the process represented France internationally at both Under-15 and Under-21 level.
His plays at the base of the midfield where he operates as a deep-lying playmaker. However, he is not afraid of putting his foot in and challenging for the ball. As expected he possesses a great first touch, his close control is fantastic and his vision is excellent. The young Frenchman is blessed with pace and his energy levels are high enabling him to make vital contributions in the latter quarter of games.
Nevertheless, he is not the complete player by any stretch of the imagination. Cabaye stands at 5 ft 7 inches and his aerial ability is poor. He could also use with bulking up as at times he is easily shrugged of the ball leaving his defenders exposed. For a player with great technical ability his shooting needs to improve too as he squanders many chances, a return of one goal in just over 10 games is not good enough.
Cabaye is under contract at Lille until 2013, but is reported to have a release clause of around €7 million. In addition to the English clubs he has been linked with a move to Bordeaux, Lyon and Marseille as well as Italian teams Roma and Lazio.
Here at 101gg we believe that he is unlikely to move to Arsenal or Chelsea but maybe a move to Spurs would benefit both, as he definitely has potential for the future and would get more playing time with the Lilywhites.
