Tresor Mputu, the 22-year-old Congolese striking sensation mooted as being even better than Samuel Eto’o, is reportedly edging closer to move to the Premier League in the January sales. Speeding up the process is Mputu himself, who was quoted last week saying “I loved it at Arsenal and my club president is ready to let me go.”
The offensive to engineer a money-spinning move to the big leagues was furthered by Mputu’s agent Severin Bohouim, who said “Tresor Mputu is the best striker on the continent right now, he is a very good player, there are many teams interested in him but I need to be careful with his career, he needs to go to the right club. He would prefer to go to the Premier League and I am in England at the moment to talk with potential clubs. There are teams in Germany and France as well, but he prefers the English league.”
Hull are the latest club linked with the striker, although Arsenal has also been tipped as a potential destination for Mputu, having spent time alongside Arsene Wenger in November 2007. Mputu however appears to be welcoming interest from the whole of Europe, having also had a an unsuccessful trial at Olympiakos in May of this year.
Playing for his homeland club TP Mazembe, Mputu has scored an incredible 34 goals in 30 appearances, including finishing top scorer in the 2007 African Champions League with nine goals, as well as notching five goals in four appearances for the DR Congo national team.
Unquestionably, he is a live-wire up front, who in the past has sometimes been too excitable for his own good. Mputu blends his slight build and lightening feet to weasel in between defenders, offering a cool head in the final third, and also not shy about taking a tumble if the situation so demands.
