Uruguayan referee issues 17 red cards as Wanderers v Juventud erupts in a mass brawl

This. Is. Mad.

Days after we brought you the story from Paraguay in which 36 players were red carded, another crazy fight has been spotted in South America which has resulted in another display of mass violence and dismissals.

As reported by Reuters:

A 3-3 draw between Wanderers and Juventud in Uruguay’s Apertura championship ended in chaos as the referee, who had already sent off one player, brandished 16 more red cards when fighting broke out after the final whistle.

Tempers became frayed when Wanderers believed they should have been awarded a penalty for a foul on the midfielder Gastón Rodríguez near the end of Sunday’s home game in Montevideo.

Punching and kicking ensued among the two teams after the final whistle and the referee, Leodan Gonzalez, showed red cards to eight players from each team.

Whilst images of the referee dishing out 17 red cards are absent, footage of the crazy brawl between the sides has been posted onto YouTube.
