Spanish radio station Cadena Ser has an intriguing transfer story today involving Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has been so impressive on loan at Atletico Madrid over the last three seasons.
Courtois played his 100th match on Saturday, as Atletico Madrid won 2-0 at Celta Vigo, keeping his 48th clean sheet for the side from the capital – a hugely impressive record.
The future plans of Courtois are likely to dominate football websites for many months to come since the Belgium number one wants first team football but appears to have his way to the Chelsea first team blocked by Petr Cech.
Cadena Ser, a fairly reliable news source in Spain, report that Courtois has agreed personal terms with Real Madrid to join Los Blancos when his contract runs out at Chelsea in June 2016.
Atletico Madrid are keen to hold on to Courtois and have recently made a significant offer to Chelsea but it appears the Belgian custodian will be heading back to Stamford Bridge for two seasons.
However, the chances of Chelsea securing Courtois on a long term deal and out the clutches of Real Madrid likely rest with how much playing time he receives over the next two campaigns.
There are plenty of suggestions in Spain that the timing of this report is suspicious and may have been published simply to unsettle Courtois and Atletico Madrid as they battle for the La Liga title with their Madrid-based neighbours.
