Last week, after Pope Francis was elected the new leader at the Vatican, news quickly spread that the newest papal was a San Lorenzo fan.
The Argentinean Pope had not only previously posed for pictures holding the San Lorenzo, but Pope Francis’ membership card to San Lorenzo was began to get circulated.
On Saturday night San Lorenzo played their first match since the new Pope was elected, and the club paid homage to the new leader of the Catholic Church by placing his face on their jerseys for the match at Colon.
Seemingly putting the Pope on their shirts won San Lorenzo brownie points in heaven as the club won 1-0 at Colon courtesy of an own goal from home striker Ruben Ramirez.
