One cannot underestimate what the Serbia U20 team achieved in New Zealand on Saturday morning. Competing in their first ever U20 World Cup, they only went and won the entire competition against all odds.

The latest line of talent in what might be Serbia’s golden generation, this team could go on to become a major force in the game.

This squad was far from the most talented at the competition. Mali or Brazil could claim to possess that. But Serbia had the dogged, resolute quality needed to triumph.

A few stars in the tournament stick out. Midfielder Sergei Milinkovic scored two crucial goals for a team whose greatest strength was its solidity.

An imposing figure, the 20-year-old Genk player was a threat at set-pieces and teams found him hard to contain at set-pieces.

Another star was goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic. Only 19-years-old, he became first choice stopper for Red Star Belgrade last season and showed why here.

He won the Golden Glove after conceding only four goals in seven games. But this success was based upon the collective effort.

Check out how fans lined the streets and lit flares when their heroes came home parading the World Cup trophy. Look at the scenes in the pictures below.
