It should have been a formality.
But Spurs are showing the frailties of old at the moment and following their late collapse at Anfield on Sunday, Andre Villas-Boas’ side made a right hash of things at the San Siro.
Tottenham had so many bad performances. William Gallas, Kyle Walker, Jake Livermore, Scott Parker and Jermain Defoe were all woeful. It is a wonder three of those players made the England squad today.
And of course Inter played their part. Antonio Cassano was inspired. Samir Handnaovic made some wonder saves whilst Javier Zanetti is a living legend.
Quite where this leaves Spurs in the battle for fourth will be clear in the coming weeks, but playing a rested Fulham side after this scare and extra time does not bode well.
As you can imagine, Twitter was an interesting place to be during a second leg that most thought was all over at the end of the first game at White Hart Lane.
There’s a lesson to be learnt tomorrow night #Spurs – if you think you only have to turn up to go through then you run the risk of going out

GOAL FOR INTER! Palacio is put through and his first-time cross finds Cassano unmarked at the back post: Fant’Antonio heads home. 1-0 Inter
— inter.it (@inter) March 14, 2013
GOAL! Palacio scores and #Inter just need one more to even up this aggregate score. 2:0 (2:3 aggregate).

Well done, Agent Gallas! Inter now 3-nil up against the Scum. Looking good for Inter. This is great! #foys

Did you know Gallas is French for “liability”?
— Gareth Bale (@GarethBale22) March 14, 2013
How can Gallas warrant being paid more than minimum wage?

Zanetti is still incredible at 69 years old.

Adebayor scores at last. But let’s face it my grandmother could have scored that one
— Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) March 14, 2013
Adebayor has a sit down, accidentally scores.

Magnificent Cassano cross finds the head of Alvarez and Inter have 11 minutes to score another! 4-1

Two mins left: Let’s hope Handanovic isn’t Slovenian for Jimmy Glass, as the keeper’s up for this Inter corner…

Inter-Tottenham 4-1 AET.Epic night in INT’s history, but 3 goals are too much to concede to such a strong side like Spurs, who had a lesson

So spurs get through after 120 mins. Come on Fulham take advantage of those wobbly legs on Sunday.
