Sunday Supplement: Harry Redknapp’s money problems, Ferguson’s rant at Wiley & “Wenger has overachieved at Arsenal”

What is the inside scoop on the Harry Redknapp leaving Spurs rumour? Looking like he belonged in court rather than on a laid football chat how, the News of the World’s Rob Beasley spoke about Harry’s problems with the tax man saying “their is an expectation now that Harry Redknapp, Milan Mandric and Peter Storrie will have to account for their actions at Portsmouth Football Club.” Oliver Holt (Daily Mirror) piped up with the observation that “this type of innuendo has trailed Harry for a while now… and it would be good if there was a resolution.”

Next on the agenda was a dissection of Fergie’s rant against Alan Wiley for being “unfit.” Oliver Kay was quick to talk down Ferguson’s comments barking, “its getting so boring managers slagging off referees. I mean, just accept it… If anything, Alan Wiley did Manchester United a few favours yesterday.” Rob Beasley put forward his belief that Fergie’s rant was made to deflect attention away from United’s abject performance.

Last, Arsene Wenger’s achievement at becoming the Gunner’s longest manager was discussed. Sam Wallace (Independent) charged the Professor with having “blind-spots,” but balanced his opinion saying “he plays the kind of football that people want to see.” Oliver Holt then piped up with his belief that “Wenger has overachieved at Arsenal. Even in the last four years… Look at the sums Manchester United have spent.”
