Still got it: Edmundo claims a brace in his farewell match (Vasco 9 – Ecuador’s Barcelona 1)

Despite the fact he retired in 2009, Edmundo was granted a farewell match last night as he celebrated a memorable career with Vasco, the club where he started his career and played for in no less than five (!) different spells.

Vasco took on Ecuadorian side Barcelona in a rematch of the 1998 Copa Libertadores final which Edmundo did not play in – as he was at Fiorentina.

Having scored 137 goals in 241 games for Vasco, over 20,000 fans came out to bid farewell to “The Animal” and they were not disappointed as the home side ran out 9-1 winners.

Proving he has “still got it,” Edmundo scored two goals, a penalty and then a fine volley from just inside the penalty area. Set-piece maestro Juninho also got on the scoresheet with a quality strike.

Edmundo’s brace.

All the goals from Vasco’s 9-1 rout of Barcelona are here.
