Newcastle boss Steve McClaren has claimed that Sunday’s opponents Tottenham Hotspur would be genuine title challengers, if not for their Europa League commitments.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in fifth place, six points off Leicester in first, having remarkably not lost a Premier League game since the opening day of the season, away at Man United.
Spurs’ fantastic victories this season over the likes, of Man City, and Chelsea coupled with their credible draws against Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, has provided a sense of optimism around White Hart Lane that there could yet be an unlikely title charge this season.
But speaking ahead of his side’s trip to North London, Newcastle boss Steve McClaren belives Spurs’ Europa league commitments will mean a difficulty in sustaining a realistic charge towards the top this season.
If Spurs are to make a charge towards the title or even the top four, then victory over Newcastle is a must, having dropped some rather winnable games so far this season.
