Steve Archibald Tweets that he offered Robert Lewandowski to Spurs for £5m in 2009

It would appear that Blackburn were not the only English side who missed out on Robert Lewandowski, the striker on the lips of every football fan across Europe this morning.

During Lewandowski’s wonder performance, scoring four goals against Real Madrid, former Spurs striker Steve Archibald, a star in the 80s for the north London side, said he told Tottenham about Lewandowski when he was still playing in Poland.

Lewandowski left Lech Poznan for Borussia Dortmund in June 2010 for a fee of around 4.5 million euros.

Archibald claims he told Spurs about Lewandowski and that he was available for less than 5 million pounds whilst he was still playing in Poland.

Somewhat predictably, Spurs fans reacted in their droves to the Tweets, wondering what might have been if Tottenham had fielded a world class striker over the last few seasons.

Just imagine Robert Lewandowski on the end of Gareth Bale’s crosses, instead of Emmanuel Adebayor!
