Spurs sign 16-year-old Australian goalkeeper Tommy Glover, on the advice of Pat Jennings

The Australian media are reporting that Tottenham have made an exciting signing: 16-year-old Australian goalkeeper Tommy Glover from Sutherland Sharks.

Glover has been on the radar of the north London giants and has impressed legendary Spurs goalkeeper Pat Jennings over the past two years.

The 16-year-old keeper was sent for a trial as a 14-year-old but despite training with Tottenham on a few occasions could only sign a contract in recent days, according to FIFA rules.

Sutherland’s goalkeeping coach, Ron Tilsed (who ironically was on the books of Arsenal himself), revealed that Glover has impressed Jennings: “So much so, Jennings quickly moved the Australian youngster up from under 16s with the ‘Spurs’ Academy.”

Tilsed added: “For his tender years, I’m amazed he’s coped so well in England; it’s a fantastic achievement for Tommy. He has worked so hard with me in the past four years and he deserves the chance. He says the pace of the game in England compared to Australia has really opened his eyes. But because Tommy is so down-to-earth, I’m sure he will grasp his opportunity.”

Spurs fans are unlikely to forget a goalkeeper named Tommy Glover and since he is already six foot and five inches we could well be hearing more from the youngster in the coming seasons.
