Southampton have signed Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk, after the two clubs agreed a fee in the region of £11.5million for the Dutchman’s services.
The 24-year-old has signed a five-year-deal with the South Coast side as Saints boss Ronald Koeman looks to add some more steel to his back line.
It has so far been a quiet day for all on St Mary’s and that is not necessarily a bad thing.
It had been thought that the Saints would lose key players such as Sadio Mane and Victor Wanyama, with the latter thought to be adamant on a move to Tottenham before this afternoon’s transfer deadline.
It is now understood that the 24-year-old has joined up with the rest of the Kenya squad ahead of the international break, meaning that the midfielder will be staying with Southampton for foreseeable future.
