It seems that one issue in the world is even more divisive than tribal loyalties in football: Middle Eastern politics.

On Wednesday, Cristiano Ronaldo posted a new video on his social media accounts of a brand new advert he has filmed for Israeli TV.

The commercial was made for Israeli telecom company HOT, and Ronaldo even said a bit of Hebrew in the commercial.

The ad begins with three footballers – played by the cast of Israeli show We’re on the Map – discussing how fast the internet broadband speed is in the club’s dressing room while watching Ronaldo play.

The Real Madrid superstar enters the scene as the club’s latest signing and the first thing that they discuss is the internet speed rather than the landmark move in Israeli football.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the new Cristiano commercial hasn’t gone down well with everyone.

The backlash from some quarters has been such, that some of Ronaldo’s fans claim to have turned their back on their former idol. Others now say they are Leo Messi supporters!
