Greek football witnessed some depressing scenes on Wednesday night in the domestic cup.
Two of the powerhouses of Greek football went head-to-head in the quarterfinals of the cup, as AEK Athens welcomed Olympiakos to the Olympiako Stadio Spyros Louis.
AEK, who are top of the second division in Greece, stunned first division league leaders Olympiakos in the first leg, when they claimed a 1-1 draw away on the road.
The return leg was a stalemate until the 88th minute, when Franco Jara put Olympiakos into the lead.
After the goal went in, Olympiakos’ players were attack by missile throwing, pitch invading AEK ultras.
The match was halted and ultimately suspended.
Olympiakos are expected to be granted the win by the Greek football authorities.
