Shocking! Hapoel Tel Aviv coach Ran Ben Shimon (43) grabs a young fan by his throat in front of cameras

Monday night in the the Holy Land sees Hapoel Tel Aviv, 5th, take on bitter rivals and league leaders Maccabi Tel Aviv in the derby, and many are expecting Hapoel to take a beating.

It’s been a miserable season for Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel, and their fans have been quick to let manager Ran Ben Shimon know he is doing a crappy job.

10 points behind the yellows, Hapoel started the year badly and they have struggled playing catching up all campaign in the league. Moreover, Hapoel’s unexpected failure to progress to the Europa League group stage cost the club millions of shekels and will likely force it to sell players in order to balance its budget.

With the dark clouds settled over the club, a gang of Hapoel fans stood outside Bloomfield Stadium on Sunday night to harangue manager Ran Ben Shimon, but the coach didn’t take the abuse lying down as he was filmed, crazily, wrapping his hand around the neck of one young supporter.

Ben Shimon has since claimed he was only defending himself, and by all accounts no further action will be brought against the Hapoel coach.
