Scenes! Ecuador players celebrate with fans after virtually qualifying for World Cup, Tony Valencia dedicates it to Chucho Benitez

Ecuador virtually sealed their qualification for Brazil next summer with a 1-0 win over Uruguay.

And without being mathematically secure, no one was gonna stop the Ecuador party last night as they felt they were as good as there for only the third time in their history.

There was a euphoric outpouring of emotion from players, fans, stewards and commentators alike, with scenes of pure joy that only a small nation can produce on qualifying.

With the commentators bellowing over the microphone only adding to the atmosphere, the players performed a lap of honour, basking in the moment with the fans.

There was a lovely tribute from Man United winger Tony Valencia too, as he gave his shirt to a fan to reveal a Chucho Benitez t-shirt, their recently deceased compatriot, to whom they dedicated the win (pictures below the fold).

Epic, spine-tingling stuff.
