According to the rumour mill on Monday, there has been a falling out between current Manchester United forward Memphis Depay and former Manchester United forward Robin van Persie in the Dutch camp.
Dutch news outlet Telegraaf have reported the story through the prism of rejecting the underlying premise of the gossip.
Telegraaf have reported Dutch manager Danny Blind’s reaction to the story, in which the coach of the Oranje has brushed aside the rumours as a storm in a teacup.
Blind’s precise quotes on the story is “That’s total nonsense.”
According to the whispers, the bust-up between Depay and Van Persie lead to the current Fenerbahce forward starting Holland’s last match away at Kazakhstan on the bench.
Van Persie came off the bench in the 87th minute to receive his 100th cap for the Dutch.
Thinking about the rumour in a historical context, few would be surpised to learn about a fracas behind the scenes with the Dutch team, as they have a long history of infighting, while they are on the verge of failing to qualify for Euro 2016.
As for Van Persie, the 32-year-old appears to be struggling with life in Turkey, as he’s found himself reduced to being a bench-warmer for Fenerbahce this season following his summer move from Old Trafford.
