Rotherham batter Leeds; Roberto Baggio & Rudd Gullit turn out for a charity match

Rotherham 4 – Leeds 2 (Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, October 8, 2008) The Millers took the lead when a long throw by Nicholas picked out Sharps and his back header looped into the back of the net. Leeds equalised when Howson slotted home from close range, but three minutes after half time Hudson scored from a rebound after his penalty was initially saved. Then two goals in five minutes at the start of the second half stunned Leeds. Broughton headed home an inviting cross from Reid and five minutes later Fenton headed home Rhodes’ corner. Showunmi grabbed a consolation for Leeds.


Fiorentina 4 – AC Milan 1 (Exhibition, October 8, 2008) The match was played for former Stefano Borgonovo, to raise funds to help find a cure for the motor neurone disease, which Borgonovo currently suffers from. Roberto Baggio, who played with Borgonovo at Fiorentina, and Ruud Gullit, who played with Borgonovo at AC Milan, both turned out for the occasion. Fiorentina eventually ran out winners, with Giampaolo Pazzini grabbing a brace, as well as goals from Nappi and Da Costa. Massaro netted the only goal for the Rossoneri.

Richard Morales opened the scoring in the second minute, and the hosts had to wait until injury time for the second, when Manchester United target Douglas Costa had a free-kick saved with Soares scoring from the rebound.

Municipal 2 – Tauro 2 (CONCACAF Champions League, October 8, 2008) Municipal opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Juan Plata volleyed home with his left foot. Tauro hit back in the second half, Luis Fernando Esobar finding the back of the net after a stunning solo effort in the 58th minute before Edwin Aguilar headed the Panama club into the lead. But Mario Acevedo headed home an injury time corner to grab a draw for Municipal.
