It’s a real shame that two of Brazil’s living legends can’t just get along, but that’s the way it is.
Pele and Romario have never seen eye to eye, and their animosity towards each other spilled over to Twitter this week following Brazil’s poor performance in their draw with Chile.
In truth, though, the trolling was one sided as Romario completely ‘Bartoned’ Pele with some pretty shocking stuff.
Pele suggested that Brazil need to base their game around the style of Corinthians to rediscover the jogo bonito.
Romario hit the Twittersphere to vent his rage at this suggestion.
He tweeted: ‘Pele’s a fool. When he doesn’t speak, he’s a poet. But when he does, he talks nothing but shit.’
To which Pele replied (at a public meeting, not via Twitter), ‘I’m Catholic and God says you must forgive the ignorant, so I forgive him.’
To which the socialist MP Romario replied, way below the belt: ‘I don’t think Pele’s as Catholic as he likes to make out. If he was, he would have honoured his daughter by going to her funeral.’
Well, that escaltated quickly!
