Former Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan forward Robinho had a hugely eventful night in the Copa do Brasil on Wednesday.
Santos won their Copa do Brasil quarter-final against Botafogo away from home, thanks to two goals from Robinho and a third by Geuvânio.
Robinho’s goals came on 23 and 29, both sharp finishes from inside the area.
Whilst always known as a trickster, Robinho rarely produced goals like this on a regular basis anywhere in European football.
He was though widely considered to be a serial simulator and his reputation may have preceded Robinho who received a second yellow card with six minutes remaining for diving.
In truth, it looked like a hard challenge for the defender and Robinho could well have won a free-kick to relieve the pressure on the Santos defence.
Reports in Brazil suggest that Robinho responded to the red card by telling the referee: “you’re kidding me, you’re crazy!”
Robinho denied diving but confirmed he did curse the referee once the red card came out.
