There were an ugly scenes in the Narita International Airport in Tokyo when FC Barcelona tried to return to Spain after the winning the Club World Cup.

Barcelona left Japan in the early hours of Monday morning European time.

Luis Enrique’s side secured their fifth trophy of 2015 with a 3-0 victory over River Plate, with goals from Leo Messi and Luis Suarez (2).

According to Sport, at the airport, a group of River Plate fans approached Messi and insulted the Argentine superstar.

One River Plate supporter even spat on Messi, who was immediately defended by Luis Enrique, Luis Suarez and Javier Mascherano.

AS claim that Messi responded with a punch and had to be separated from their River Plate fans.

We are still waiting for video footage to emerge of the Messi incident, however Spanish TV have today broadcasted a segment piecing together videos and photos of Messi as he made his way through the airport.

An additional video has also been shown on Spanish TV showing River Plate fans insulting Javier Mascherano.

Mascherano, like Messi, is Argentine.

The video recorded River fans hurling nasty verbal attacks at the Barcelona star. Apparently they felt snubbed by the fact that Mascherano and Messi failed to go over to greet them.
