It is an exciting time in Brazilian football with Leidson joining Corinthians, Ronaldinho set to make his debut for Flamengo tonight and Rivaldo the latest former World Cup star to return to the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Ronaldinho has been wowing us in Flamengo training for a few weeks now, among the highlights have included “the behind-the-goal-goal” and yesterday’s impudent skill where he back heeled a ball into a net.
Not to be outdone, Rivaldo, 38, has also scored a brilliant “golaco” in his first training session for Sao Paulo with an eye on making his debut on Thursday.
Afterwards, Rivaldo said: “I was fortunate to score this beautiful goal, and I hope this will happen during the games.” Some critics may suggest that Rivaldo only shot from the far out because he doesn’t have the legs at his advanced age.
The Brazilian press have already hailed the goal and suggested that Rivaldo has succeeded where Pele failed – the famous 1970 World Cup effort is on this video.
This video has selected highlights of Rivaldo’s first Sao Paulo training session.
