On Monday, Portuguese winger Nani was presented as a new Fenerbahce player.

Nani had been received in Turkey to great fanfare and is now looking to resurrect his career in the Super Lig.

Last season, Nani showed his quality at Sporting Lisbon on loan from Manchester United, and it would be no surprise were he to perform magic on the wing at Fenerbahce.

On Monday evening, former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand penned a very long tribute to Nani on his Facebook page.

The undoubted highlight from a comedy perspective was how Ferdinand called Nani “Naan Bread” but there were some seriously impressive accolades thrown about.

Ferdinand claims that Nani could have been in the second or third tier of players in world football and goes on to explain why he rates the Portuguese winger so highly.

This paragraph sticks out:

“Of all the players I’ve played with during my career, if I wanted someone to beat someone 1 vs 1 & it was do or die he would have been one of my first picks for sure. He can go either way, off either foot, tricky & lightening quick – a defenders nightmare!”

From one of the finest English defenders of all time this is high praise.

It is also noticeable how many of the comments on Facebook also praise Nani. There are undoubtedly many who feel the former Sporting winger failed to live up to his talent at Old Trafford, but still produced many great moments along the way.

Further down this page, there are a couple more tributes from Manchester United’s official social media accounts to the departing Nani.
