Linesman John Brooks became a hero to supporters across the land on Sunday when he urged Joleon Lescott to go celebrate with the Manchester City fans after their win at Arsenal.
With the build-up to the match dominated by the expensive tickets both sets of fans had to endure, Brooks endeared himself to supporters across the globe with an immortal line caught by the Sky cameras at the final whistle of City’s victory at Arsenal.
As can be seen on the video below, Brooks told Lescott: “They’ve paid 62 quid over there, go and see them.”
Sadly, and all too predictably, Brooks comments may have been detrimental to his own career as he has subsequently been pulled from officiating at the FA Cup 3rd round replay on Tuesday night between West Brom and QPR.
In addition, it has emerged that Brooks will not be running the line for any of the Premier League games next weekend.
No official confirmation has been made by the FA or Premier League over John Brooks, but if his comments are the reason he has been pulled then this is nothing short of a disgrace.
Footage of John Brooks’ comments to Joleon Lescott are on the video below.
