Real Madrid finished second in La Liga and reached the Champions League semi-finals.

At the end of the campaign, Los Blancos were just two points off La Liga champions Barcelona and went out the Champions League thanks to a 1-1 draw at home with Juventus.

Its very difficult to reclaim the Champions League as has been shown over and over again during the past two decades.

However, the efforts of Carlo Ancelotti this campaign have been considered not good enough by the Real Madrid board and Florentino Perez.

To say there are high standards at the Bernabeu would be an understatement.

Tonight, Florentino Perez will announce that Carlo Ancelotti is to be sacked, according to widespread reports in Madrid, from the likes of AS and Marca.

Despite the fact there are no real high quality candidates and the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric publicly backed the Italian, Ancelotti is still on his way.

A cup double in 2013/2014 was not enough for Ancelotti. It looks like the era of Rafa Benitez as coach of Real Madrid is nearly upon us….
