Radamel García, the father of Radamel Falcao Garcia, has expressed his delight that his son made the 30-man provisional Colombia World Cup squad.
But, has warned Radamel Falcao is only currently 60% fit for the World Cup and is still a long way off from recovering from the serious knee injury picked up in January playing for Monaco.
Radamel Garcia, a tough and uncompromising Colombian defender in the 1970s and 1980s, spoke to RCN radio on Wednesday, with his quotes coming via Marca.
Falcao’s father said: “My son is recovered by 60 percent” and now must acquire “endurance, strength, speed, a combination of things that are fundamental to a player of high performance.”
When pressed on whether Radamel Falcao will play at the World Cup, he said: “In football it is not only about gaining physical qualities and you have to wait to see what happens.”
Colombia are in Group C at the World Cup and will face Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan.
