Posh get the best of a 9-goal thriller with Bristol Rovers; Leeds hit five past Crewe

Peterborough 5 – Bristol Rovers 4 (League One, September 6, 2008) Posh got the better of a nine goal thriller. Craig Mackail-Smith cracked a hat-trick for the hosts, Aaron Mclean and Scott Rendell also netted for Posh, with Steve Elliott, Shane Blackett, Jeff Hughes and Richard Lambert replying for Rovers.

Leeds 5 – Crewe 2 (League One, September 6, 2008) Fabian Delph got Leeds’ opener with a 30-yard shot and Alan Sheehan grabbed a second with a long range effort before Jonathan Douglas extended the lead. Jermaine Beckford headed in a fourth and Andy Robinson curled in the fifth before Leeds’ Lubo Michalik was sent off in injury-time for violent conduct. Crewe’s Calvin Zola headed in from the free-kick and Eugene Bopp added another consolation goal with a deflection.
