Portuguese referee João Capela took charge of Boavista against União da Madeira in the Primeira Liga on Sunday afternoon.

There was a minute’s silence held for Portuguese referee Paulo Paraty, who sadly passed away last week.

João Capela paid a touching tribute to his former colleague, using his foam spray to write the letters R.I.P. on the pitch ahead of the minute silence.

The referee and his assistants shared emotional hugs ahead of kick-off. Rest in peace Paulo Paraty.
