The Times of London on Wednesday have gone about looking at the net wealth of Britain’s top 30 sportsman, and, unsurprisingly, footballers are well represented in the list.
Whilst Lewis Hamilton (£68m) and Jenson Button (£63m) sit in first and second spot on the rich list, Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney comes in third with a net wealth of £60m.
Just behind Rooney is fellow Man United favourite Rio Ferdinand, who is worth £44m.
In joint seventh position are England’s two favourite midfield stalwarts who have never been able to make it click for the Three Lions: Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and Chelsea hero Frank LAmpard are both said to be worth £37m.
New Man United manager Ryan Giggs is slightly further back in joint 9th with £36m, to complete the trio of Red Devils in the top 10.
Looking down the top 30 list, the following players also make the cut: John Terry (£31m), Fernando Torres (£31m), Yaya Toure (£23m), Petr Cech (£22m), Ashley Cole (£21m), Joe Cole (£21m), Sergio Aguero (£20m), David Silva (£20m), Damien Duff (£18m), Robbie Keane (£18m) and Robin van Persie (£17m).
