Arsene Wenger was the main reason behind Petr Cech’s decision to join Arsenal this summer, this investigative piece from the Mail claims.
Cech’s decision to leave Chelsea for London and title rivals Arsenal wasn’t met well by many Blues fans, and manager Jose Mourinho was at pains to avoid it happening.
Mourinho did everything in his power to get Cech to move abroad, the Mail claim, but once he realized that owner Roman Abramovich had vouched for Cech’s freedom of choice, the Chelsea boss essentially knew that there was nothing he could do.
And according to the Mail, Cech did not even consult with Mourinho before deciding to leave; he had just two meetings: one with Abramovich, and one with Arsenal boss Wenger.
And the chat with Wenger swayed it, according to the Mail, with Cech immediately buying into the Arsenal philosophy.
