Per Mertesacker had a woeful game for Arsenal at Southampton on Boxing Day.
The BFG and Laurent Koscielny were amongst Arsenal’s worst performers in the 4-0 rout for the Saints.
In truth, the centre backs were not helped by Mathieu Flamini who failed to protect the Arsenal defence with Francis Coquelin’s absence keenly felt at St Mary’s.
After the game, Mertesacker came out with plenty of platitudes, admitting that Arsenal learnt a lot of how not to play against Southampton.
And, the German defender pinpointed the upcoming home games against Bournemouth and Newcastle as massive to their Premier League title challenge.
