Panathinaikos v Olympiakos abandoned as fans riot in the stands (Video & Pictures)

The Apostolos Nikolaides stadium in Athens last nigh looked like a war zone.

The Greek top flight match between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos was abandoned on Saturday before a ball could be kicked as fans rioted in shocking fashion.

Scarily, Olympiakos striker Alfred Finnbogason was hit by a flare during the mayhem, which began in the streets of Athens hours before the kick off.

Panathinaikos will likely forfeit the game and, depending on the referee’s report, they could also be docked points, fined and made to play a number of home games behind closed doors.
