Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini gave his best impression of a salesman today when he spoke to Radio Anch’io.
It is the latest stop in Zamparini sales tour as he aims to flog his star asset – but only if the bidder is willing to part with €40 million.
The star we’re talking about is of course Paulo Dybala.
An Argentine scoring sensation, Dybala has been compared to the Argentine scoring sensation by Zamparini.
In quotes published by Goal, he said: “For me, Dybala is the Messi of the future. I value him at €40 million, but we will have to wait and see what happens at the end of the season.
“There has been a lot of talk about Dybala, but his agent is just doing his work. I have a good relationship with him. The transfer fee we will receive for Dybala will be reinvested. We have an ongoing project. Even if Dybala were to leave, other important players will arrive.”
High praise indeed from Zamparini but is it all a load of hot air, blown with the intention of seeing his market value rocket?
It is, obviously. But that doesn’t mean that Dybala lacks quality. The 21-year-old is one of the most exciting talents on the continent.
With 12 goals and seven assists in this Serie A campaign it’s no wonder to see so many suitors lining up for his signature.
Dybala has gone on record saying that he would swim to Barcelona for a transfer there. That’s the same Barcelona who regard Messi as irreplaceable.
If only they could find a potential heir and Palermo could somehow find a €40m bidder.
