Olivier Giroud would have preferred Arsenal signed Liverpool’s Luis Suarez over Gonzalo Higuain [L’Equipe]

Leading French sports daily L’Equipe have an interesting interview with Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud on Wednesday.

Giroud, who has scored a goal in each of Arsenal’s four Premier League games this season, was interviewed ahead of the Gunners’ Champions League match with Marseille, and the striker voiced some interesting opinions on the North Londoners’ summer transfer activities.

Arsenal’s leading striker admitted that he would have been in favour of the club signing Luis Suarez during the summer but not Gonzalo Higuain.

Giroud told  L’Equipe:

When the name of Suarez was circulating, I honestly thought it was a good thing for the team. He would have been complementary [for me]. I’m getting a little more legitimacy, especially this season. But I repeat, Suarez would have been a cannon.

Suarez can also play on one side [out wide]. It would have been difficult for me with another player. We (me and Gonzalo Higuain) would have been in direct competition because he is a pure central striker. Of course, at the time, it would have bothered me a bit. But I was not afraid of competition.
