The Sul-Americano Under-20 tournament is important for a number of reasons.
Brazil are desperate to qualify for the Olympics so their World Cup team is ready to participate on home soil in 2014. In addition, there are a huge number of games packed into a few weeks so that European agents and scouts can have a good look at the young stars of tomorrow.
Crucially for fans of golazos, the tournament is also producing. First off last week Yoahandry Orozco announced himself as Venezuela’s number one talent with a special individual goal against Peru. And last night there were two free-kicks which were particularly impressive.
First off, Neymar starred again for the Brazil team, scoring twice in a 5-1 win over Chile (highlights here). The opener was a delightful set-piece from the young Santos star who flighted the ball in off the bar.
Uruguay were also indebted to Adrian Luna for his excellent free-kick which secured a 1-0 win over Colombia. The diminutive 18-year-old forward will likely have announced himself to a number of watching scouts with this excellent hit from 25 yards out.
