New Manchester United manager drops captaincy hint: ‘Van Gaal & Van Persie have same philosophy, he’s a good captain’

The feeling in the Dutch media is that Louis van Gaal will snub Wayne Rooney for the Manchester United captain’s armband, and appoint his Oranje skipper Robin van Persie.

There was further evidence to this materializing in van Gaal’s words after Holland’s draw with Ecuador, in which he hailed RVP as a ‘good captain’.

Then brilliantly speaking in the third person (God Complex?), the Iron Tulip further intimated that he could make van Persie his captain by highlighting their common philosophies.

“Always, you make a player captain when you have more or less the same philosophy, not only about football tactics but also about life,” he added.

“So I think that’s very important. I believe that Van Persie and Van Gaal [have] the same philosophy.”
