One of the more extraordinary transfer stories of the day is that Nemanja Vidic could be set for a shock return to Manchester United in January after failing to settle in Italy.
The Serbian defender left Old Trafford in the summer after spending eight-and-a-half years at United, but his move to Inter Milan hasn’t gone according to plan.
His short time at the San Siro has been littered with mistakes and he has been more of a hindrance than a boost to a defence that he was supposed to bring leadership to.
Reports in Italy have speculated that Vidic could be shipped out as early as January and Louis van Gaal is considering bringing him back to United due to their own defensive problems.
United’s back-line has looked vulnerable for much of the season and injuries haven’t helped van Gaal find his ideal line-up. A six month deal would suit both parties, with United desperate to bring in defensive cover and Vidic looking to escape his Italian nightmare.
It has been said that Vidic regretted making the decision to leave United after David Moyes was sacked and that the Scot was the main reason he ran for the exit. He is a player in decline but would be a useful addition to the United squad.
