Michael Mancienne, one of the few Englishmen to play top flight football on the continent, has suffered a nasty injury at training on Thursday.
Mancienne, now 26, began his career at Chelsea, however the centre-half was limited to just a handful of appearances for the Blues during five years at Stamford Bridge.
Mancienne left Chelsea to join Hamburg in 2011, and the defender has been at the Imtech Arena ever since.
Whilst Hamburg, third bottom of the Bundesliga, are fighting to beat the drop, Mancienne took a beating at training in an accidental collision with teammate Heiko Westermann. The clash left Mancienne with a gash on his chin that needed six stiches to be sown up.
The defender uploaded pictures of the injury on his Instagram page with the message “At war today. Not a nice cut”.
