Must See: Fausto Rossini scores a wonder-goal with his heel; Alfredo Moreno scores a pearler in Mexico

Sadly, we failed to spot this goal before we posted our top goals of the week list, but we simply could not ignore this wonder strike from Livorno’s Fausto Rossini in his side’s 5-2 win over Frosinone at the weekend in Serie B.

If people have been gushing over Zlatan’s sublime strike from the week before, then arguably Rossini went one better.

With his side cruising after going three-up in the opening eighteen minutes, Livorno won a corner on the left hand side. The right-footed inswinging cross, hit relatively low and flat, headed to the edge of the six yard box where Rossini, his back to goal and with a Frosinone defender goal-side for company, decided to meet the ball on the volley.

The result was pure poetry. Rossini attacked the corner by backheeling the ball on the volley, and after making clean contact the ball flew goalwards, off the underside of the bar, and in.

Rossini’s wonder strike can be seen here.

Obviously the flashbacks immediately come flooding back, as Rossini now belongs to an exclusive club of goalscorers that includes two other incredible Italian strikers from yesteryear, Gianfranco Zola and Roberto Mancini.

UPDATE: Many thanks to Theo for recalling Filippo Maniero’s wonderful backheeled goal for Venezia against Empoli back in the 1998/99 Serie A season.

Another goal which slipped under the radar came from Sunday night’s match in Mexico between CF America and Puebla.

With only five minutes on the clock, America built an attack with the ball fed into the feet of striker Alfredo Moreno, 25-yards from goal. Not only was Moreno a distance away from the net, but he also had a defender glued to his shadow as well as having a second Puebla defender attracted to the ball as soon as the pass was made.

But none of this defensive cover was able to hold Moreno, who proceeded to score a goal straight out of the top draw.

Through a blend of control, sublime skill, and an incredible strike at the end, Moreno freed himself from a tight spot to bag an absolute beauty.
