Michael Essien’s reserve comeback match: Aston Villa 4 – Chelsea 3 (video)

Michael Essien, arguably Chelsea’s most important and best player, marked his comeback from a lengthy six-month absence following a cruciate injury with a spirited 90 minute display in the reserves against Aston Villa at the start of last week.

Wearing the number 6 shirt, Essien took his position in a holding midfield role with Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink watching, before giving a typically whole-hearted display which he crowned with an 86th minute goal.

For Villa, Nathan Delfouneso looked sharp bagging a couple of goals while they also had much to celebrate with the return of Wilfred Bouma.
